The best of Czech Nature Photo from April in the Czech Photo Centre. A selection of the best of the almost 1800 pictures which were entered for the Czech Nature Photo contest can be viewed within the Czech Photo Centre gallery from Thursday 5 April until Sunday 13 May. Running alongside the exhibition is the Macro Photography in 3 Different Ways exhibition.

Czech Nature Photo photographs were entered in the following categories: Mammals; Birds; Reptiles, Amphibians and Underwater Life; Invertebrates; Czech Forests; Czech Farmland and Rural Areas; Animals in Human Care; Wildlife in Prague; and Czech Wildlife and Countryside. Some of the photographers whose photos will be displayed in the Czech Photo Centre gallery include Jiří Karbus, Vladimír Čech mladší, Igor Mikula, Ivan Mikšík, Michal Dobeš and many others. Michal Dobeš, for example, has won the Digital Camera Photographer of the Year contest, and has been a finalist in the FEP European Professional Photographer of the Year Awards, while Jiří Karbus has won the Outdoor Photographer of the Year and British Wildlife Photography Awards.

The exhibition comprising nominated, winning and other selected Czech Nature Photo images is curated by photographer Michal Krause, a previous Czech Press Photo and Wildlife Photo Contest award winner. Michal was also the head of the panel which judged the best photographs. Also in the international panel were Spanish biologist and wildlife photographer Javier Aznar González de Rueda, Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner, Petr Bambousek who can boast of a number of international awards plus a number of Czech Press Photo awards, and Prague Zoo Director Miroslav Bobek. A total of over a hundred photographs which were entered for the Czech Nature Photo this year will be on display within the Czech Photo Centre.

The exhibition Macro Photography in 3 Different Ways will be held at the same time in the Czech Photo Centre’s Small Gallery, i.e. from 5 April to 13 May. This exhibition showcases over forty images taken by Milan Blšťák, Pavel Krásenský and Veronika Souralová. The exhibition conveys a unique view of the miniature spaces located right around us, which each of the photographers present to the viewer in an entirely different manner.

Both exhibitions also include the accompanying programme – Nature Month in the Czech Photo Centre, in which photographers Rostislav Štefánek, Pavel Krásenský and Vladimíř Čech mladší will showcase their work through talks. Director and producer Jan Svatoš will speak in person on how he made the documentary film, Archa světel a stínů (Ark of Light and Shadows) on Martin and Osa Johnson’s journeys around Africa and America. There will also be guided viewings. Programmes for schools have been arranged too. You can find an overview of all accompanying programme events in our calendar.

The results of the Czech Nature Photo 2018 contest will be officially announced in the Czech Photo Centre on 19 April 2018. A total of 252 photographers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia took part in the contest, submitting almost 1800 images.

The Czech Nature Photo 2018 exhibition will be open every day except Mondays – on Tuesday to Friday always from 11:00am until 6:00pm, and at weekends from 10:00am until 6:00pm. The basic entrance fee is 80 CZK, or 40 CZK concessions. The gallery is roughly 100 metres from Nové Butovice metro station at Seydlerova 2835/4, Prague 5.
