Czech Nature Photo 2018 nominace

This historically second, but first official fully-fledged Czech Nature Photo contest is organising an exhibition of award-winning and selected photographs. Last year, the 2017 contest exhibition aroused huge public interest, and we can expect a similarly fascinating exhibition this year too. From 5 April to 13 May, this year’s most successful pictures can be viewed. Over the course of January and February 2018, the photographers entered their work for the following categories: Mammals; Birds; Reptiles, Amphibians and Underwater Life; Invertebrates; Czech Forests; Czech Farmland and Rural Areas; Animals in Human Care; Prize for Best Photograph of Czech Wildlife and Countryside – a special category in partnership with the Krkonoše Mountains National Park Administration; and Wildlife in Prague – a special category organised by the City of Prague Council.

The international expert judging panel selected nominations for a total of eight basic categories for the Czech Nature Photo contest. Additionally, there are the new categories of Wildlife in Prague, and Best Photograph of Czech Wildlife and Countryside. 252 Czech and Slovak photographers entered the contest. The official announcement and prize-giving ceremony will take place in the Czech Photo Centre gallery on 19 April 2018.

The exhibition comprising nominated, winning and other selected Czech Nature Photo images is curated by photographer Michal Krause, a previous Czech Press Photo and Wildlife Photo Contest award winner. Michal was also the head of the panel which judged the best photographs. Also in the international panel were Spanish biologist and wildlife photographer Javier Aznar González de Rueda, Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner, Petr Bambousek who can boast of a number of international awards plus a number of Czech Press Photo awards, and Prague Zoo Director Miroslav Bobek. A total of over a hundred photographs which were entered for the Czech Nature Photo this year will be on display within the Czech Photo Centre.

The exhibition also includes an accompanying programme – Nature Month in the Czech Photo Centre, in which photographers Rostislav Štefánek, Pavel Krásenský and Vladimíř Čech mladší will showcase their work through talks.
