Picture description: The Czechoslovak Border – Separately Together
Series description: Czech–Slovak Border – Separately Together is primarily a photographic series that follows the lifestyle and manifestations of material culture, and the changes in Czech and Slovak society 30 years after the break-up of Czechoslovakia. It captures often absurd scenes in the background of cultural events, anniversaries or chance encounters – things that unfold in the second plane of what is happening. At the same time, it is a photographic document recording the contemporary life of people as well as the landscape, architecture and folk traditions of both nations that once lived together in a single state. I have been working on the project since 2021; the actual photographing takes place within a 50 km strip on both sides of the border, i.e. in Moravia and in Slovakia, along its entire length from the confluence of the Dyje and Morava rivers to the tripoint near Hrčava.
